In what ways does your product use,

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product, which is a music magazine, is based on dance music, the age bracket for the magazine I believe is 15 – 25. The audience I am trying to attract is anyone who is into music passionately but mainly into dance music, my magazine features other types of music, not only dance, as I have the music news that talks about all genres of music.

I have tried to represent my music magazine towards teenage/young adult groups, examples of this is the main story line in the magazine which is about a young DJ that is very talented and is believed to be a star in the near future, he is in the age bracket that I want my audience to be in which helps the audience relate to him as their of similar age.

My main image at the front of the magazine is of the young DJ he is in very stylish clothes and looks very fashionable, this will help to relate to the particular social group that I want because boys of similar age can relate and think of the young star as a idol, someone to look up to or be like. On the other hand for girls it could be someone that they may fancy or can talk to about to their friends. He is a role model for my particular social group as they can also aim to be like him or aim as high as him.

I have also tried to aim my music magazine towards my social group by trying to pick colors that will hopefully stand out to them and help them to understand the magazine more. The three main colors that I have chosen is black, grey and red this is because it helps the magazine stand out but also because when I researched about coloring for my magazine I found that my social group preferred to these colors to most others so I chose them as my coloring scheme.

My music magazine is perfect for my particular social group because it is very colorful and it is very bold so it stands out, this is ideal because from my research I found out that most people in the age bracket that I related to my magazine only chose magazines that stood out to them, so I believe my magazine is ideal as it stands out.

Also my music magazine has not got a lot of writing like other magazines as I could see from my research that people in the age bracket much preferred more pictures than writing, so in my magazine I have a balance of writing and pictures so that it can appeal to broader audience. The pictures will also help people who find it harder to read as I could see that there were a few people in the age bracket who had reading problems, the pictures are like a storyboard they help ell the story and help explain the magazine.

Some thing that is a bit different and may not fit completely with the type of genre I want my magazine as is that it is not that as messy and crazy as other music magazines but is much more simple and easy to read and understand, I have done this because I believe it will give the magazine something unique and different and in the long run help it too stand out.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

When I first began my preliminary task I took a long time in deciding what my magazine should be about instead of asking people and researching about it I thought I could make up a really good magazine from what I just knew but now I know that this was the wrong way to do things instead of using all my own Ideas for my full product I started by researching other magazines and asked a few other people on ideas, this helped me hugely as it gave me an idea of what people actually liked. By doing the research it helped me to base my whole magazine on one genre of music, it also helped me give my magazine a colour scheme which my preliminary task never had.

Also during the project I learnt how to structure the magazine to make it look more professional and help it to stand out, it also helped me on picture taking as my pictures on my preliminary task were not very good and had to be edited unlike the ones I took on my full product which actually look really good and professional. Throughout the task I tried using a number of colours but knew that having three main colours would be the best way for it too look professional and for it to stand out, I got these three colours from the survey I took.
I also learnt about how the pictures I took should be laid out and different types of shots, this helped me out a lot as I got my cover image on my full product looking like a picture you would find on a real magazine, it also helped me lay out the other pictures so they were on a page that they could be related too, I have explained this in question 4.

I have developed my computer skills a lot more since my preliminary task, I was not too sure how to use in-design and Photoshop when I first began my preliminary task but slowly I began to get use to it and in the full product I used both of the programs easily and they came to my advantage a lot as they made my magazine look so much more professional, the technology also helped as I got everything done much quicker. The programmes worked so fast and I could use the programmes in most places so I could get more work done easier. I have learnt that it is much harder to design a magazine than I thought there is a lot of preparation that is needed for it too look as good as it does, I’ve also learnt that a lot of research needs to be done for your product to work, you need more than one opinion.

The most important thing I learnt was that the audience is the most important thing to take into consideration, in my college magazine, I had a specific audience but the magazine did not reflect that audience as the colours and pictures did not match the target audience, but in my music magazine I made sure there was specific colours and pictures so they matched the target audience.
